In The Heart of Downtown Modesto

In January 1912 William R. Mensinger built the Modesto Theater. The three story building included a 34 foot wide stage, an Alaskan marbled lobby, and seated 900 including the balcony. It opened in August of 1912 and was dedicated on February 6th of 1913 with the production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” presented by the Modesto Choral Society. Around 10 months later the theater was gutted by a fire. On July 9th of 1914 Mensinger rebuilt and rededicated the theater.

Fast forward 100 years to 2014. Erin Doran a true wedding and event expert and pioneer who had been in the wedding industry since 1999 fell in love with the rundown, vacant building. She envisioned restoring this once town jewel back to it’s glory days and established The Century as an elevated wedding and event venue. Her extreme respect and admiration for historic architecture and her adept eye for design has enabled her to masterfully highlight the natural beauty in the original features of this building. Erin and her team pride themselves on their exquisite taste and tremendous abilities in event execution. Like a well oiled machine we all work together to ensure your event goes better than you imagined.

In 2019 Erin, being the true entrepreneur that she is, opened Nine3One next door to The Century. This space is primarily a co-working facility with 12 semi-private office suites, 2 nook offices, a shared work space, 2 conference rooms, a therapy room. For more information about these services check out the Nine3One website.

Needless to say we love what we do and if you are hosting an event we would love the chance to meet with you for a consultation. Give us a call or request more information through the “contact us” tab. Like Van Gogh said “What is done in love is done well.”

We are so enamored with our building and it’s amazing history. We were even so lucky to get to host Mensinger’s Great Great Grandson’s wedding.
