Built in 1912
More than a beautiful building. It has a story.
The Century is not just a venue. It is a landmark with over 100 years of history woven into its original brick walls, hardwood floors, and the memories of generations of Modesto families.

A Beautiful Building Was Born
In January 1912, William R. Mensinger built the Modesto Theater. The three-story building included a 34-foot wide stage, an Alaskan marbled lobby, and seated 900 including the balcony. It opened in August of 1912 and was officially dedicated on February 6th, 1913 with a production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" presented by the Modesto Choral Society.
Around 10 months later the theater was gutted by a fire. On July 9th, 1914, Mensinger rebuilt and rededicated the theater -- a testament to how much this building meant to the community.

Restored and Reimagined
A century later, Erin Doran, a wedding and event expert with roots in the industry since 1999, fell in love with the rundown, vacant building. She envisioned restoring this once town jewel back to its former glory and established The Century as an elevated wedding and event venue.
Her deep respect for historic architecture and her eye for design allowed her to masterfully highlight the natural beauty in the building's original features: exposed brick walls, crystal chandeliers, and hand-scraped acacia hardwood floors. Every detail honored rather than replaced.
We were honored to host Mensinger's great-great-grandson's wedding right here in the building his ancestor built.
"We are so enamored with our building and its amazing history. We were even so lucky to get to host Mensinger's Great Great Grandson's wedding."
